Taxation Section in California
California's statewide tax bar association is the Taxation Section which boasts about 3,000 members. Members are professionals such as accountants, financial planners, pension and trust administrators, actuaries, tax executives, federal, state and local tax administrators, educators, tax specialists and law students. This section permits other states’ attorneys as well as non-attorneys to be associate members. Throughout California, this taxation section has various local committees. Young Tax Lawyers Committees was set up for tax practitioners who are building experience and have fewer than10 years of practice experience.

The Taxation section in California offers incentives to their associate members like subscription to California tax lawyer publications, reduced price on education programs offered by Taxation Section, networking with other taxation officials and government officials in California. Education
The Taxation Section offers many educational programs which range from current issues related to taxation to technicalities and nuances of tax issues. These programs are conducted in State Bar Annual Meetings, Annual Section Education Institute, Annual Meeting of the California Tax Bars and other such forums. Also, the Taxation Section offers opportunities for associate members to interact with government officials. This is possible as it offers a platform for them to present their papers on substantive and procedural tax issues to officials from Internal Revenue Service, the US Treasury Department, US Congressional committees and the Tax Court.
Federal and California government personnel act as advisors and take part in various activities conducted by the Taxation Section. Tax attorneys can become members of the Taxation section by just filling out the form and paying nominal fees for the State Bar of California Members and Associate Members.
